Santa Clara - 11/26/2007 - Macrovision Corporation (NASDAQ: MVSN) today announced a license agreement with a leading set top box manufacturer which provides the licensee rights to utilize Macrovision’s Connected Platform within its digital set top boxes in the North America cable market. The agreement is intended to advance the development of next-generation set-top boxes that allow consumers to access, share and manage digital content within their homes.
The growing volume of high-quality personal digital content available within the home, as well as on the Internet, has driven greater demand for networked entertainment devices. Digital set top boxes are now common in many homes in the United States and, in many cases, are becoming the hub of the family entertainment experience. Currently, most consumers are limited to accessing premium linear and on demand content on their set top box and storing and viewing personal digital media content, such as photos, on a personal computer. However, system operators and manufacturers are quickly adopting technologies to bridge the gap between the PC and cable set-top boxes.
Macrovision's Connected Platform enables hardware providers to create cutting-edge wired and wireless digital home products that allow users to discover, browse, search and enjoy personal content and connect between silos of digital entertainment.
"Cable operators are increasingly demanding networked set top boxes that can enable the next-generation of digital home entertainment experience," said Fred Amoroso, President and CEO of Macrovision. "We are pleased that key CE manufacturers are embracing our Connected Platform and look forward to participating in their success."
Macrovision's Connected Platform offers a comprehensive and flexible solution for the development of consumer entertainment products with the capability to acquire streamed music, photos and video from PCs and networked storage devices.
