Santa Clara - 3/11/2008 - Macrovision® Corporation (NASDAQ: MVSN) has been named a promoter member of the Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA), an organization of more than 250 companies that share a vision of an interoperable network of consumer electronic devices, including personal computers, mobile devices, set top boxes and automobiles. As a promoter member, Macrovision joins top consumer electronics, semiconductor and content companies dedicated to leading the advancement of guidelines and interoperability for a consumer digital lifestyle.
Along with becoming a promoter member, Macrovision is also announcing its leadership of the DLNA Certification and Test subcommittee (CTS) as Chair. In this role, Macrovision will guide the subcommittee in streamlining the DLNA certification process to provide consumer electronics manufacturers the ability to deliver products to market in an expedited and efficient fashion.
"We are pleased to welcome Macrovision to the leadership of DLNA," said Scott Smyers, president and chairman of DLNA. "We expect that Macrovision's expertise in working with leading CE manufacturers and content providers will broaden DLNA's ability to reach key stakeholders and thereby help to enable consumers to experience the true meaning of digital living."
Elected by the alliance's board of directors, DLNA promoter members' benefits include developing, revising and approving design guidelines, voting rights and the ability to chair committees and subcommittees throughout the organization. Through its increased involvement in DLNA, Macrovision hopes to help the alliance achieve its goals of becoming an open industry standard that enables consumers to enjoy an environment where they can view and share digital content between devices.
"Macrovision is motivated to see DLNA succeed. We have a similar vision of enriching the consumer experience by helping to create an open environment where digital entertainment devices can seamlessly connect to one another, regardless of the manufacturer," said Eric Free, executive vice president and general manager of Macrovision's Embedded Solutions Business Unit. "We're dedicated to strengthening the DLNA certification process so that the DLNA brand continues to represent true interoperability of devices in the market."
Macrovision's involvement with DLNA began with its acquisition of Mediabolic, a DLNA participant since the organization was formed in 2003. The company contributed to the initial implementations of the DLNA guidelines and the Macrovision Connected Platform Solution, tested on a media player, is a reference device for the DLNA certification program. The Macrovision Connected Platform, a comprehensive and flexible software solution for developing consumer entertainment products with the capability to acquire, manage and play back digital content, is a component of the DLNA guidelines.
