LONDON 6/22/2005 - Macrovision Corporation (Nasdaq: MVSN) announced today that Digiturk, the largest Direct To Home (DTH) TV broadcaster, has signed an agreement with Macrovision for content protection across its range of premium channels.
Macrovision’s technology prevents unauthorised copying of premium content on VCRs, DVD recorders, digital video recorders (DVRs) and PC/Media Centres. Macrovision’s technology can also be used to permit secure storage and movement of premium content movies to DVRs, PC/Media Centres and portable media players to provide more flexible viewing options for consumers.
Digiturk is Turkey’s largest provider of DTH television services. Boasting around 868,000 subscribers at the end of 2004, the service offers 128 television, radio and interactive channels in varying packages – and includes access to pay-per-view films, sports and erotic content, all of which can be now protected from unauthorised recording thanks to Macrovision’s technology.
"Digiturk continues to keep its technology at a level which content owners always feel confident about providing their premium content to Digiturk without any hesitation. Macrovision technology is an important step in achieving this target," says Ms. Hatice Memiguven, COO of Digiturk.
Martin Brooker, Macrovision Europe’s Director of Sales added, "Digiturk has shown leadership in protecting the intellectual property rights of its content providers, and we’re delighted it has chosen Macrovision technology above all else. It is vital that as the methods for recording content proliferate, steps are taken to ensure that any duplication is authorised by the intellectual property holder, without impacting consumer choice and freedom. Macrovision technology offers all this and more."
