New in RightAccess 4.1: Advanced Registration
The new RightAccess 4.1 is now available, and it includes new advanced registration functionality that lets you capture detailed data about your user base.
Advanced registration allows you to query your customers for valuable information in a targeted, iterative, and user-friendly fashion. Instead of having to fill out time-consuming registration forms upfront, your users can answer a few questions (of your choosing) in exchange for access to the content on your site they are interested in viewing.
- Understand Customers Better: Use rules-based questioning and surveys to gather detailed demographic data about your customers
- Allow Information as Currency: Allow customers to ‘pay’ for access to content by using their information as currency
- Control Access in New Ways: Limit access to online resources based on the breadth of information submitted by your users

Top 6 Underappreciated Features of RightAccess and RightCommerce
- Partnering Capabilities –The RightAccess partnership adapter, along with support for federated authentication standards, provides Single Sign-On capabilities that allow you to share users with other sites. Widen your reach by using the RightAccess and RightCommerce coupon-and-claim system to develop cross-promotional campaigns with business partners.
- Non-URL Resources – Protect, package, and sell all types of media and services (not just Web pages), including graphics, PDFs, audio, video, and on-demand applications.
- Micropayments - Don't let transaction costs dictate your pricing strategy. RightCommerce offers a variety of billing and payment schemes, including payment thresholds and pre-paid charge accounts, which allow you to implement micropayment models without imposing prohibitive per-transaction costs.
- Flexible business models – Different customers want to pay for content in different ways. To maximize revenue, you should offer users a wide variety of licensing models to choose from. RightAccess and RightCommerce support a wide variety of models, including rating, metered usage/utility pricing, tiered pricing structures, pay per view, volume pricing, and site-wide discounts.
- Authentication Levels – Authentication levels define the authentication requirements for successful access, and can be applied on a per-product basis. Attaching higher authentication levels to certain products allows you to increase the security around sensitive areas of your site (such as customer self-care pages), without impeding normal site usage.
- Delegated Administration – Delegate administration to both internal staff and external agents without compromising security. RightAccess/RightCommerce delegated administration uses a combination of role-based and domain-based security models that allow you to determine who (based on role) can manage which objects (based on domain).

Macrovision Helps Channel 4 Television Power Video On-Demand
Channel Four Television Corporation (Channel 4), a leading public service broadcaster operating in the United Kingdom, recently deployed Macrovision’s Digital Commerce Solution, including core products RightAccess and RightCommerce, to provide the ecommerce infrastructure for its new Video On-Demand (VOD) service.
“We’re very excited about our new PC-based VOD offering which allows Channel 4 viewers to purchase, download, and enjoy classic Channel 4 content from throughout its history including Shameless, Drop the Dead Donkey or Big Brother,” said Bob Harris, responsible for IT Strategy & Architecture at Channel 4. “With Macrovision’s solution, we can now sell individual episodes as well as entire seasons and will soon introduce subscription based packages with the ability to test new strategies and make changes, at any time, with minimal systems impact.”
Macrovision’s Digital Commerce Solution enables Channel 4 to price and promote flexible VOD product offerings. Price optimization features allow easy real-time testing of both pricing and promotional strategies. The solution’s commerce capabilities also facilitate dynamic pricing based on stored metadata (e.g., recognizing and charging a discounted price when a season or bundle of episodes is purchased, versus an individual episode).
